Because We Care - 21 Principles of Preventive Parenting  by Anthony R. Qunitiliani Table of Contents

DEDICATION

I dedicate this short book about parenting and child development to my mother and father, Lucy and Carmen Quintiliani. As parents with very limited formal education, they practiced a loving and common sense parenting similar to many of the principles and skills noted in this book.

They were hard-working, patient, positive role models. They loved their children and practiced intentional compassion every single day. I am forever appreciative for their love, support, corrective guidance and never-ending caring.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Many people have supported the development of this book. Jim Leddy and Mary McKearin first presented the idea to me in 1998. Their support has been very important. Bob Bick encouraged me to participate in the project. My wife, Eleanor Liebman, supported my efforts despite the fact that all research and development time was beyond the traditional work week. Eleanor and her mother, Alice, also offered significant editorial feedback.

Another group of people reviewed the draft text and made many very important suggestions for improvement. Carol Bick, a School Counselor and Mental Health Professional, offered concrete, helpful suggestions in many practical areas.

Erica Marks and Patty Baroudi, of the Vermont Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs, reviewed the draft and presented important suggestions allowing the book to parallel various Vermont prevention and intervention initiatives.

Mary McKearin, again, gave more of her time to review the draft and make various valuable suggestions.

Auriel Gray, a School Counselor and Yoga Teacher made many, many detailed suggestions for improving the practical value of the book's developmental and skill-based activities.

I wish to thank Kathy Larkin, who completed final editing and proof reading of the text.

I also wish to thank Lynn Butler-Dube, who created the drawing on the cover of the book.

To all of these important people, I say Thank You. Without your help and support, this project could not have been completed.
